Comments: The quality of this picture isn't the greatest, but Larry Honey in the Harley Davidson #1 belongs in the Vault.  I had a Harley #1 patch sewn on my jacket like a lot of 13 year olds who were trying to look cool back then...  I'm not sure about the jacket, but this sedan is pretty cool!

07/31/04 Bob Hummer Sr. Larry is my uncle and this was in 1973.   He left this ride owned by Bill Stecker and John Slack in 1974. They had Butch Riddle in the car after that for a few races and then sold the car to my brother Jim Hummer.  Jim went on and made it the # 55  and ran it a couple of times at Flemington. One night he let "Fats" Cummins drive the car and "Fats" totally destroyed the car in a wreck that happened between turn one and two.  The car was then done!  My brother saved what he could from it and junked the rest for parts on his future racers.

Larry is now living in Easton,Pa. and likes to talk old race stories about this car and others that he won in at Nazareth and Harmony.  His best effort at Flemington was 2nd place to Ken Brenn Jr.   Prior to this car he ran a #1 37 ford sedan for Richard Lauber and won his share with that one as well.  It was also a white colored car. Actually Stecker and Slack liked the Ford so much that they made this Chevy sedan (1937) look very simular.

Larry also was a driver for Tom Hager when Tom built his first # 43 at the age of 16. Tom was not old enough to get in the pits at Nazareth so he let Larry drive it. They  (Driver and Crew) would go meet Tom at the fence between pits / grandstand after warm ups and heat races for their information on what to do to the car! The year was 1966 and I remember it well.

11/25/05 Barry Pursell. I remember Larry Honey driving the #1 for Dick Lauber, and also the maroon #909 before that.  Tom and Dave Hager used to hang out there. The power plant was a 289 Ford if my mind serves me right.
09.25.10 Kossie I remember Larry Honey driving for Tom Hager, before Hager even thought of driving
