Photo ID # 02.22.03_033_VAR_FLM_0070_1
Car #: #33, #31,#27
Driver (s) : Not sure about the #33, but it is Sug Byerley in the #31 and maybe Bob McConnell in the #27 (thanks RJJKSHIVE)
Location: Flemington, NJ
Date: 1970's
Photographer: Unknown
Photo provided by: Scott VanGorder
Comments: Sug was known as the Flying Garbageman from Somerset, NJ.  I always liked the way the #31 coupe looked on the track.  There was nothing 'trashy about it!  For it's day, the car was one of the best looking sportsman coupes at the track.  (Could really use some help out there regarding the #33).

02.23.03 Todd L Have to see if Joe was in the 27.   I run into him upon occasion.
02/24/03 Bill Hanna Look along the infield road and the first car parked in the back pits looks to be the rookie car of none other than Billy "The Kid" Pauch. I know than the rookies always parked there. Gee look how CROWDED the infield is with fans. What memories from the 70's, for it is surely NOT THE 90's.  Bill Hanna Easton PA
02/24/03 3-Wide You know Bill, I was about to send out the guys with the nets because I thought you were seeing things...and then I spotted the little white Mustang looking thing with the blue top just as you go thru on the access road and I gotta agree with you.   I've got a great shot of this car taken by Ace Lane provided by Mark Yaple that I will try to get posted soon.  I'll tell the guys with the nets that it was a false alarm......  Thanks for your comments.
02/24/03 Bill Hanna That is definately Sug in the # 31.  My guess for the others is Lew Blair in the # 27 and perhaps Gary Boekhout in the # 33 or perhaps I believe it could be Coercoran in the # 33.  Bill Hanna  Easton PA
02/24/03 3-Wide I'm not sure either.  I know that Gary Boekout used to have a orange Corvair around this time I think.  I know there was also a guy named Jack Voorhees who ran a yellow #33....  Somebody wake up John Mc - he must be taking a nap!
03/03/03 Mark Yaple The name Corky Cochran comes to mind when I see the 33 and the 27 is Bob McConnell.  The coupe replaced a Pinto body which was destroyed in a spectacular EWS flip.
03/09/03 Bryan I believe the #33 is Corkey Cochran, and I believe it was a former Deasey 707 car.
05/12/03 RJJKSHIVE The #27 is Bob McConnell.  Bob painted my first racecar in 1978.   I think I know where this car still is, possibly, now with a Vega body.
