Comments: There was a time in the sport when Ray, with this little Gremlin, set the pace in the Sportsman division.  It seems to me that this car (or possible the one the year before), had everyone scratching their heads and trying to duplicate it's success.  Ray was the man to beat for a while at the Square in the Sportsman division.  Next time the Vintage guys come to town, check out Rays restored #10 that I think has an earlier color scheme than this car, but there is no mistaking it!

01/05/03 Dave Spurlin His duels with Joe Hall were great!  Remember the match races?
01/14/03 Bill Hanna The car that dominated the Sportsman division was the year or two prior to this one. The paint scheme was white with a yellow # 10 trimmed in red I believe and the basic paint scheme was used in the restored car. I also remember a large "Smiley Face" on the car. Just thinking about the GREAT SPORTSMAN DIVISION Flemington had in the 70's (Hall, Liss, Newt Hartman, Les Katona, and others). Heck their features were anticpated as much as the Modifieds back then, before the "3 win rule".
06/08/06 Doug Padgett I raced with Ray in the sportsman division at Flemington and I'd like to say that he was one of the best!!!!  Always willing to help a fellow competitor and a very clean racer on the track. What's he doin now???
06/08/06 3-Wide Ray lives in Brick, NJ (on the water) and still does some fabrication work.  He is also very active in the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club, and is one of my favorite people.  Check out his picture in our "Faces of the Vault" Section taken at one of the last NOTARC events held at Flemington Speedway.  Click Here
10.24.09  Harry Gano  He sold this car to Larry Clark in the late 70s, I remember Ray kind of came out of retirement, I think to sell the car, he totally dominated that sportsman race that night. I have run into Ray at a couple mall shows over the years. Great guy, great driver!
