10/07/06 3-Wide As many of you know, the car pictured above not only still exists, but still looks very much like it did back in 1969!.  (Picture above taking in August of 1969... Picture below taken in September of 2006!)

The only difference that I can see is that the car today has a little more dirt on it than the car pictured at the top of this page.  The dirt was probably picked up either on the night the August 16th, 1969 photo was taken or possibly within a few week's of the photo in what turned out to be the #95's final laps of competition over 37 years ago.

Even looks like the same tires and wheels!

Perhaps one of Hoop's family members or crew could tell us the date of the last time the #95 raced.
10/08/06 Rick Shive Greg Collins gave me a handwritten record of ALL Harmony Speedway races (only missing 2 weeks results for the entire history of the track).  Going by that and what Hoop's nephew and several other people told me, Hoop's and the #95's last race was on Sept.13,1969 at Harmony.  He finished 2nd in the feature to Dick Havens, and second to Jimmy Martz in the heat.

That is Hoop behind the car in the picture, kinda with his back to the car, don't recognize anyone else.  Honestly, being 9 years old in ' 69, I don't recall the car being that ugly!  And knowing Hoop, some of the dirt on the car in this shot is probably still on there.

I just drove by his garage yesterday, and it's really cool knowing old 95 is still in there.  We used to go past on the way to Flemington every Sat. afternoon and see the car loaded on the flatbed (which I believe is still parked behind the shop).
10/09/06 3Wide Beauty is only tin deep!  Thanks for the update Rick... that would mean that his pic may have been taken at one of the cars final appearances at Flemington.
10/11/06 Walter Onora I am not sure but I think Hoop's last appearance at Flemington was in 1969 or 1970. One of His last races, He finished fifth or sixth in the feature.
10/15/06 Michael Everett I remember about 15 or 20 years ago, when I first saw this car in Hoop's garage. There were so many "treasures" in his garage that it literally took a few minutes to crawl along a narrow path just to get to it. Once we were there, it was covered with all sorts of stuff and the inside was filled with even more stuff. Anyone who has been in Hoop's garage knows what I mean.

While I was there, I started asking him about the car. I remember him saying that it's a '36 Chevy with a 350 engine. He used a '57 Cadillac radiator, '37 Ford trans, and a Franklin rear. He built the roll cage using cut-up drive shafts (notice the diameter of the rear roll bars). Since the car has been dug out of the garage, I had a chance to look it over again. Everything he told me seems to be there as he described it to me; I couldn't see all of it years ago. There are also a lot of home made parts on it too. Hoop's car is a real "modified" stock car.
01/20/07 JOHNNY SCOTT I lived across from hoop's garage and house for a few years when I was running sportsman at Flemington. # 101.

I used to walk over to his garage when I saw him over there. Just seeing that # 95 sitting there brought back the story from my dad Harold Scott.   I remember one time we had a problem with the transmission just before leaving for Flemington and Hoop when over to the shop and brought one back for me.

Those old timers were the pioneers that started it all.
10.07.08 Bill Van Saw one of these orange '95' cars run at Flemington on one of my first trips there. Much earlier than '69 I think, and judging by the appearance it might have been this one. At that time I recall it had most of its fenders and a full hood(?), an unusual sight for us Northern pavement people.

The crowd was shouting "Hoop...Hoop...Hoop...!!!  Announcer (Bill Singer?) made much that evening of Mr. Schaible and his #95 "from Up-per Blllack Ed-dy, Pennsyl-vay-nee-ahh!".

My crowd had never heard of him, but he obviously liked to drive the wheels right off the car and at Flemington, no less, so how could you not like him?. We all thought it was one of the neatest things ever. -
02.28.09 Kenneth Stull The last race for Hoop and the #95 coupe in the top picture was indeed Sept.13,1969 @ Harmony Speedway.  I was there the next morning when they unloaded the car and pushed it in the garage where it remained for 36 years until Hoop's nephew and I dug it out . That garage in Upper Black Eddy ,Pa. holds tons of racing memories for me as that's where I began my love for racing .

Rest in Peace Hoop !
03.01.09 Ken Stull The fellow in the picture with Hoop is Rich Stimmel from U.B.E.,Pa. Hell , back then everyone hung around Hoop's garage for the thrill of being around Hoop and all the racing ! The so -called Upper Black Eddy gang was even bigger than most will ever know.
11.27.09 fltlnjok If you were to google Hoop Schaible, there is a very complete website covering Hoop and the Upper Black Eddy gang.  In it there is a picture of a sheet from a Penn - Dixie Cement Co. scratch pad with Hoop's handwritten recipe for racing fuel.  Having that next to the photo of the 95 would be really cool. I guess, though, you would need permission to publish it.
