Comments: Classic photo of Lee McBride, Pat McBride and Al Michalchuk from what we think is the pits at Flemington.  All 3 of those pictured above could be found behind the wheel of various racecars right into the 70s with Lee winning many Sportsman Features, Pat driving both Sportsman and Sprints and Al going on to Sportsman and then Modifieds.

Here's a little more information about this particular car told to me by Al Michalchuk:   As you can see by the picture above, Al was a young man at the time this photo was taken... In fact, Al was only 15.  You may be thinking, "How did he get into the pits?"  Well, seems that right behind the the driver's seat in this car, there was a metal plate that ran across from driver's door to passenger door and it had kind of a shelf across the top of it that created a little compartment just above the floor pan of what would have been the backseat...  I'll let you figure out the rest of the story, and not to rat anybody else, but I hear that Al's good friend Phil Meisner was known to use the same method of getting into the pits at Flemington!

I'm sure this is just one of the many stories from the 60's and 70's at Flemington.
