07/05/06 George LeBlanc Johnny Lee was a long time competitor at Weissglass Stadium here on Staten Island. Pat Curci was the car owner.

This picture was taken after the 1962 points races had concluded at Weissglass Stadium. John had led the points standings for most of the season and with only one night of racing remaining, he got called to go to Greenland as he was in a military reserve unit. He lost the championship to Buddy Laureno because of this.

They ran the car at a few other tracks that year and then parked it. Looking at the 1964 date for the photo, it is possible they brought it out once or twice after leaving Weissglass in 62.

I have all of John's trophies on display in my museum. He passed away a few years ago from a heart attack.

Regards, George LeBlanc
