Comments: Comment from Hank:  Enclosed is a photo I took in the pits at Flemington in about 1966.  I always liked Bow Tie Bob.  One evening I saw him give away his red bow tie to a little girl named Cathy Cervenka.  Bob was never a big winner, but was always a classy guy and a good sport.

11/23/05 Steve Starr The owner of the 32a was Dale Clickner of Edison, NJ. The owner of the engine was Louis Starr of Edison, NJ - also owner of all the Star 7's. Bow Tie Bob ( Bob Wiesemeyer ) was the '59 Old Bridge track champion, '59 new egypt track champion, 3rd in New Jersey state nascar points and 7th in the nascar national sportsman points.  61 total sportsman feature wins between 1957 and 1960.

I know all this information because I'm Louis Starr's son. Thanks -

The mid 60's was an unusual time at Flemington. Most drivers have to win often to be famous. In the 60's, you only had to win ONE race to be famous..provided Tasnady was second! Look at Billy Osmun and Jackie Hamilton. I never knew who they were until the night they managed to keep Tas behind them.

I was there both of those nights, and fortunately was also there the night Wiesemeyer, piloting the above car, beat Tas, embellishing the accomplishment by actually passing him! The car looked just like the above picture, which made the feat seem all the more incredible...if you're the type that judges a book by it's cover.

But if you were there that night, and heard the sound of that motor screaming, well, that made it all a little more understandable. I don't know how it held together for 25 laps at that RPM, but it did, and the rest is history! I think it DID blow the next week, but they already had the "attaboy" from the previous week. (It wasn't cancelled by the O.S.!) One other note on this car- on the side facing the stands, the number was 32A-3. The only other writing on the car was:

3 Klickners

1 Starr

If any of the "responsible" parties read this....Thanks for the
unforgettable Saturday night!
