Comments: Known by most spectators as a great competitor, and known by all competitors as a great driver and great fabricator, Bob Rossell got the most satisfaction out of winning, when it was while driving a car that he built himself.

Some will remember a red #4, along with the light blue #36 shown above... while others will remember his accomplishments on asphalt driving a variety of cars including the Dick Barney #14.

Something tells me though that many of us will always remember Bob in his way cool #56 coupes, painted orange with their black roofs, rumbling around Flemington, East Windsor, Nazareth, etc.

Bob recently told me that Ed Flemke once told him that "To make money with a racecar, you have to be able to race it tomorrow. "  Bob incorporated that piece of advise into his driving style which lead to Bob winning when he had a car capable of winning, but also lead to Bob finishing 2nd or 3rd or maybe even 5th if that's all there was to get on a given night.

Either way, the car usually was ready to go the following night mainly because of the smooth, steady and successful driving style of Bob Rossell.

That car was built by Rocky Crowl from a 36 Chevy coupe that I bought for $475 in Bridgeport, CT.

The car had about 35,000 miles on it, started right up with a boost. Went to get it with the trailer, replace the flat tires and drove it to Rocky’s garage! The old 2 piece radio even worked! The owners manual was in the glove box!

It was so good that I had it sold to a collector for $750 and a 37 Chevy 2 door sedan, I nearly lost it when I got to the garage and found it torn down, the body off the chassis.

Oh, well, that’s how a 19year old learns
