Comments: Comment:  Two cars... coming down the Flemington homestretch side by side.  Both based out of the Morrisville, PA area - both white 36 Chevy coupes (I think!)... both lettered by Tom Backes... Both running a big right front and a tiny pony tire on the left front....  Dick Havens on the outside...  Al Tasnady on the inside...  Fans all on their feet....   I would have loved to have been there to see how this one turned out!

What a great time to be a dirt track fan. Those cars from the late 60’s were the best!  Everything on them hand built or removed from a street vehicle and modified for Saturday night racing. The front axles held in place by the wish bones on either side, the leaf spring mounted parallel to the Ford axle, with the weight jacking bolts in the center. Those big Buick drum brakes with full backing plates on them. Those cars could run side by side for the entire feature and not touch. The 47 looks a bit older then the Piscopo 39 that’s sporting the famous “Tasnady lean”.

Such a great shot, a coin toss on who won as both cars were dominant at the time. Looks like the track was a little heavy that night. I'm pretty sure both these cars were built around the same time. The one thing that really stand out is the great lettering. Those numbers just jump out at you, looks so much better than the wretched excess of the wraps of today.

Check out the photo on page 40 of the 60’s section.  Photo of Tas in the 39 with the pony tire & a “hard” lean.  That one was snapped at the first Daniel Boone 200.
