Great shot that includes a heck of a lot of talent.  Looks like all these hot rods are '36 Chevy coupes.  Don't know who's in the dark colored # 24.  I close my eyes and I can still see, hear, even smell these cars coming out of the 4th turn at Nazareth, Middletown (Orange Co.), Flemington, East Windsor or whatever track we visited back in the day.

Frank Schneider red #2,  Bob Pickell White #2, Jackie McLaughlin #83, Will Cagle White #24, Sonny Stupp Red #24 and Rags Carter or Bob Malzahn in #1.  Sadly we lost Jackie later in the year.

If the folks at Webster's ever add photos to their definitions, this image should be the one to accompany "Modified Stock Car".  Great photo!!

If I had to pick just one though, that Cagle #24 has just plain got The Look.

This lineup at Allentown sure brings back the memories of one of the greatest, and worst years in racing.  The loss of so many drivers that year made it a sad one but the racing in all genres on the local and national level was the era that sticks in my mind the most.  After Jackie, Otto Harwi and DeeDee Kruger died that season my father quit going to the races until late in the 1970's a few times.  Being a racer back in the late 1930's at Nutley Velodrome where there were fatalities it was too much for him to take all over again.

As we all know, Jackie McLaughlin in the #83 was really running and winning at this point.  I recall him in this car that year, and the Jordan #2 before that.  The rest of the field here were no slouches either, all of them strong contenders and favorites of mine. Actually I liked them all, the rough riders, the back of the pack racers as well as the front runners. It was the cars and the great racing that really held me and my parents.  I don't recall Sonny Strupp in a coupe though unless it was a new car ... I recall him running a really nice, full fendered, classic '37 Ford flatback with a Y-Block Ford motor in '64.  I would love to see a picture of that one.

Keep up the great work with the site!

I believe that's Bucky Barker in Will Cagle's red 24.

02.18.13 Tom Hiester I would have to disagree with one of the posters that said Cagle's #24 car should be pictured if Webster ever has a picture of a modified. I would say the #83 of Jackie McLaughlin or Budd Olsen's #0 car. Just my opinion.
