Comments: Comment from Will:  This picture was taken of Ray Tilley at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania the year was 1965. This would only be 1 of 47 features that Ray, would win the his new ride in the Bud Grimm's # 88 Ford powered car. Ray would establish himself as the winningest driver in the nation in 1965 by breaking the long time record of Johnny Mackison. Ray, would also win the track championships at Williams Grove, Selinsgrove and at Susquehanna Speedways in 1965. Rays, record would stand intill Doug Wolfgang, driving the Bob Weikerts # 29 Livestock car broke it in 1986 with a incredible 56 feature wins.  I will be sending more pictures of Ray Tilley and many more drivers that run the wild Super-Modifieds cars of the 1960's that they called "BUGS".  Thanks, Will Rose

07/26/03 Jim Brewer An amazing sidelight to Tilley's win streak was the fact that the Wil-Sel circuit had outlawed fuel injection for the 1965 season (check the photo - - it is a carb) - - up until then you could run any induction system you wanted (Bud Folkenroth ran a blower successfully at Williams Grove, Lincoln, and Susky in 1962-63 seasons) - - Jack Gunn was promoting both Williams Grove and Selinsgrove and the rules banned everything but a single four barrel carb. The idea was that the big dollar teams had been winning everything (and car counts were down) so it was now time for the "little guy" to have a chance. So the "expensive" cars were banned.

The 1965 season proved to be a failed experiment and by the end of 1966 the Grove was running caged sprinters with the "Bugs". Of course, by then everyone could run injectors.
