05/25/03 Russ Dodge Pierce ran mainly at Flemington. It looks like Flemington lighting. I believe he was from Delran, N.J. But let's see what others may say. He was a heck of a nice guy
05/25/03 Jim Murrow Congratulations Tom - You have sent a picture of, "The Flemington Phantom."

I don't know much about this guy either. I've been meaning to ask Russ Dodge about him, but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. I remember the car showing up at Flemington in the early 60s. The reason I remember it, is that he towed it on a 2 seater Thunderbird. I don't remember if it was a '55, '56, or'57, but to see the race car being pulled by the little T-bird was a rather incredulous looking sight.

He was supposedly from Thorofare, NJ. he ran Flemington a few times, then disappeared. I never saw him anywhere else, or heard about him again. Like a Phantom, he appeared out of nowhere, then disappeared without a trace.

Notice, his name: PIErce HAMLIN - remember the story of The PIEd Piper of HAMLIN? Maybe he was there to rid Flemington of Rats?

Anyway, I'm sure Russ Dodge will have at least 20 or 30 pictures of Mr Hamlin, be able to tell us the exact dates he ran, what Pierce had for dinner right before each race, Pierce's complete family history, (Back 8 generations), .who built the car, who bought the car from him, and exactly where, on her body, Pierce's sisters mole is located....I asked Russ about a number of other (less known) drivers a few weeks ago, and he had pictures of ALL of them.

05/26/03 Walter Onora Started going to Flemington in the late 60's I remember Pierce Hamlin driving a little blue and white coupe(the number might of been 2) This coupe was always trailered by a white Chevy Camino (either a 64 or 65) Are there any pictues of that particular car??
05/26/03 3-Wide I think Tom also provided a picture of Pierce driving a #11 coupe at Flemington.  I'll try to get it posted in the future.
05/27/03 SLM You can see the Thunderbird taillights in the picture if you look hard enough. Great picture. Thanks SLM
05/27/03 3-Wide HE'S RIGHT!  GREAT CATCH ON THE T-BIRD TAIL-LIGHTS!
05/27/03 Jeff Davis Pierce was from Delanco, NJ. He was a distant family relative of mine. I was too young to remember the "00" but I do remember the "11" blue and white coupe. Yes, the car was towed at that time with a Chevy El Camino. I remember many trips to Flemington with my dad and Pierce. He passed away from cancer in the mid-70's. I have run into some of his family members from time to time at New Egypt Speedway. The number "11" on my first late model was chosen in memory of him.
05/28/03 Jim Murrow I only saw the 00. It only ran a few times in the early 60s. The first time it showed up, the announcer said he was from Thorofare. . I was standing next to Jackie McLaughlin when they announced it, and he lived in Thorofare, so I asked him if he knew him. he said no, he had no idea who he was and had never seen the car around. That's why I said, "Supposedly" from Thorofare. I figured that had to be wrong.

In the late 60s, I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, so I never knew he came back.

01/31/05 Jeff Acton PIERCE HAMLIN WAS MY FATHER'S BEST FRIEND UNTIL PIERY'S DEATH .MY FATHER, HUGH EUBANK, DID A LOT OF THE WELDING ON THE LAST CAR PIERY WAS WORKING ON, I BELIEVE IT WAS AROUND '74 OR '75.
05/04/06 Karen A friend of mine sent me the link to your site. I am Pierces oldest daughter Karen. It was 32 years April 28 that my dad passed away, I was 10 at the time. I remember him taking my younger sister (who I was told was named after Jackie McLaughlin) her name is Jackie and myself to the races when we were little.

Seeing all of the pictures here brings back memories. Although I was young at the time, I have great memories of going to all the different tracks and all of dad's friends, the Horgers, Varones, Davis's, Eppolites,Eubanks, DeVaults...I know there are many more that I have forgot to mention.

I really enjoyed reading the stories about my dad. I'm sure he would still be out there today, driving the pace car or something. He enjoyed racing so much...
04.14.14  SAW Thanks to SLM’s from comments 11 years ago, the T-Bird was a 1956. The chrome ring around the taillight and the little white dot above give it away.
