02/21/03 Russ Dodge This picture of Jackie was taken at the Reading Fairgrounds. Jackie started his racing career in the mid-fifties at Alcyon speedway. He drove a car for Walt Taitt but will probably be remembered at Alcyon by most fans with the red/white #400. The car which came out of Clayton Body Shop was one of the first stock cars to run fairly successfully using a later (1950) style body. Jackie, residing in National Park, N.J. was great friends with the other Jackie, Jackie McLaughlin. In the early 60's "Hammy" was very successful in his sportsman #6 at Flemington. In the later 60's he moved to the Reading area and made Reading his home track. He actually kept his car in a barn on the Reading Fairgrounds property for a while I believe. In later years after retiring from driving, he could be found helping his old friend and former pit crew member George Wingate, around Bridgeport Speedway. Thanks, Russ Dodge
03/09/03 3-Wide There is something really charming about this photo.   Whether it's Jackie's smile, a great looking old coupe, or the way this picture shows that that sometimes all that separates the competitors from the fans is a little chicken wire!
05/08/03 Jim Murrow I remember the # 400 well. It was either a '49, or '50 ford. (The only way I can tell the difference is the door handles, pull out on '49s, and push button on'50s), and I think they were removed on this car. Jackie Hamilton also owned and drove a brown # 69 car, which he pretty well totaled at Flemington one night. He rolled it all the way from the 4th turn to almost the starters stand. It wound upon it's side, and there was one of those hushes that you get when the crowd thinks there may be a serious injury to a driver. Jackie started to crawl out the window, but passed out and fell back into the car. He was removed by the ambulance crew and taken to the hospital. That night, the radio announced that he had been killed in the crash. The next morning, I was at Sonny Dornberger's race shop, where someone had towed what was left of Jackie's car the night before. To my surprise, while Iwas looking it over, up drove Jackie Hamilton! I told him he looked great for a dead man. Thanks  Jim Murrow
07/16/07 John Stover Any oldtimers remember Jackie driving the car from the barn behind the Reading grandstrands into the pit area ? Thanks - John Stover
11.30.11 Terry Fick John, I sure do remember him driving down what was the mid-way during the fair.  I believe the building in which he stored the car was next to the old roller skating rink. I thought he owned the car he drove at Reading. Am I wrong?

"Close the track gates, please."

Jackie Hamilton was quite a driving talent with equipment that was no frills. If my memory is correct ,this is the car that Jack won the NJ state title with in 1967. Jack was always quite the character & always fun to be around.
