Comments: Comment from Russ: This photo really shows how it was done back then. Phil is seen working on the 404 in the motel parking lot. Yes, the car was flat-towed (meaning no trailer!) and the pick-up truck unloaded with the spare parts in this open air garage! Note the jack stands holding the car up. The spirit of racing... towing your car from Franklinville, N.J. to Daytona to race, and pulling into your driveway at home after this great adventure, with less than a dollar in your pocket! Thank you Phil, for some great memories over the years. Russ Dodge Photo by Gemenden family member

11/11/07 3-Wide I go to Daytona every year, but no longer stay on Daytona Beach for Speedweeks.  It doesn't seem to long ago though that it was common to see the guys who towed in to run New Smyrna or Barberville who had no choice but to use the hotel parking lot as their garage away from home.  I can also remember the hotels in Deland, Fl (Hotel Putnam, Chimney Corners Motel, etc) dotted with raceteams, back in the days of open trailers...  Can't tell you how much this photo reminds me of those days..  Thanks Russ.
